Meta, which owns the Facebook and Instagram platforms, has recently made changes to its labeling criteria for AI-generated images. As for the earlier ‘Made with AI’ label, it is now replaced with an ‘AI info’ label, the company explained.

This was in reaction to several users accusing the world’s largest social networking site of putting tags to real photos that went through some basic photo manipulation, as the report said. However, over time the company has modified it and now uses the ‘AI info’ tab across all the Meta applications taking into consideration the feedback of the users.

Earlier this year, we said that to address this and provide broader assurance that our systems aren’t generating content, we’re going to start labelling AI-generated content in a new way., As an important part of this new approach, we use indicators that other industry players include in the content created using their tools, to determine whether something was created using AI.

“As have others across the industry we have noted that our labels based on these indicators didn’t always meet people’s expectation and weren't always Assigning sufficient context,” it continued.
The company then proceeded to give an example of how some of the content modified contained minor alterations using AI, such as the retouching tools, which had industry standards that were then labeled as ‘Made with AI.’

The new label will be to a wider range of audio, video as well as image content when it detects industry standard AI image indicators and also when the users reveal that they are uploading AI-generated content on social media platforms, said reports.

Meta stated this as it works with companies across the industry to enhance the process to reflect the intent of our labeling approach better: “In the meantime, we’re changing the ‘Made with AI’ label to ‘AI info’ across our apps, which people can click to find out more.”
